Ryan's Birthday Party Weekend January 2004

Ryan had his seventh birthday on January 20th, but we celebrated it at Manatee Hammock Campground on Saturday January 24th.  I stayed at the campground with little David on Friday and Saturday.  Susan, her David, Kayla and the boys joined us camping in tents on Saturday night.  On Saturday afternoon, everyone else showed up for the party.  We had pizza, cake and a piñata.  As you can see, from the pictures, everyone was having fun.  On Sunday morning, after our camp breakfast of eggs, grits, sausage, and toast, Susan was alert enough to notice that the left side of my face was drooping indicating that I could be having a stroke.  She talked with Bonnie and David, and all agreed I should go to the hospital ER immediately.  David drove me to Parrish Medical Center in Titusville, where I received a CT scan verifying that my brain was OK and their suspicions that I had Bell's Palsy, a paralysis of the muscles due to inflammation of a nerve probably induced by stress.  The doctor gave me prescriptions, and I went to the doctor in Miami who referred me to a Neurologist and for physical therapy.  I have to wear a patch over the left eye, and can't drive for about two weeks.  Hopefully the condition will clear up by then, but could take longer.  I hope I will be able to drive up for Hope's birthday in two more weeks.
